In 1935, English chess player Baruch Harold Wood founded the magazine CHESS, which became one of the two leading monthly chess publications in Great Britain. He edited it until 1988, when it was taken over by Pergamon Press and changed its name to Pergamon Chess. It became Macmillan Chess in 1989 and Maxwell Macmillan Chess Monthly in 1991. Current owner and executive editor of the magazine is International Master and famous chess journalist Malcolm Pein.
