This envelope, a set of stamps, and a special cancellation were created to commemorate the 14th Chess Olympiad, which took place in Leipzig, East Germany, in the autumn of 1960. A total of forty teams participated. The formidable Soviet team, comprising six grandmasters and guided by world champion Mikhail Tal, secured their fifth consecutive gold medals. The United States and Yugoslavia claimed the silver and bronze positions, respectively.
