This envelope and special cancellation were created to commemorate the 11th Chess Olympiad, which took place from September 4 to September 25, 1954, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Twenty-six national teams participated. The Soviet team exhibited complete dominance, securing victory in the final with a staggering seven-point lead. Argentina claimed silver medals, while Yugoslavia settled for bronze.
