1960 World Championship Match envelope

This letter was sent during the 1960 World Chess Championship match in Moscow to Leningrad (now known as St. Petersburg). The envelope bears a special red cancellation dedicated to the championship, and the stamps used for postage feature chess-themed designs, paying homage to the outstanding Russian chess master, Mikhail Chigorin.The 1960 World Championship consisted of 24 games and took place in Moscow, USSR, from March 15th to May 7th. The 23-year-old Mikhail Tal emerged victorious, beating Mikhail Botvinnik with a score of 12½-8½ and becoming the 8th World Chess Champion.
