Alekhine Dead! British magazine CHESS article for April 1946

Curious fact
The circumstances of Alekhine’s death are still a matter of debate, with versions ranging from a heart attack, choking on meat as per official autopsy, or "the hand of Moscow reaching him", suggested by Alekhine’s son among others
The news of Alexander Alekhine dead in his hotel room in Estoril, Portugal, shook the chess world in the spring of 1946. This happened on March 24 and the world champion was 53. Inevitably, the famous picture made it to the article of British monthly periodical, CHESS. “We reproduce the photograph with which “Sunday Pictorial” scored a real “scoop”, of Alekhine dead at his table with his Chessboard beside him.” Alekhine's burial was sponsored by FIDE, and the remains were transferred to the Cimetière du Montparnasse, Paris, France, in 1956. A round-robin tournament was organized in 1948 to determine the new World Chess Champion, won by Mikhail Botvinnik.
