Curious fact
In 2016, Europe Échecs editor Bachar Kouatly was elected President of the French Chess Federation, thereby continuing the legacy of the magazine’s founder, Raoul Bertolo, who had also previously led the country’s chess federation
Europe Échecs is a monthly French-language chess magazine that has been published since 1959 in Nice, France. It was founded by Raoul Bertolo (who passed away in 1991), the then-president of the French Chess Federation, as a successor to l’Échiquier de Turenne. Europe Échecs holds the distinction of being the oldest chess magazine in France that is still in circulation, and it is currently edited by Grandmaster Bachar Kouatly.
