Curious fact
Dutch chess had already had De Schaakwereld magazine previously. The Chess World (1874-1875) was a chess magazine, the successor of Sissa, the organ of the Dutch Chess Federation. However, with a single volume, De Schaakwereld became the shortest-running chess magazine in Dutch chess history after De Nederlandsche Palamedes
Letter, written by Alexander Alekhine in Carlton Hotel in Amsterdam on June 19, 1936. Dr. A. AlejhinTranslation into English:The idea of publishing a chess weekly in the Netherlands seems very appealing to me. I am all the more pleased because I can say that the enormous enthusiasm for chess in the Netherlands is largely due to my last year's competition against the current World Champion Dr. Euwe. A chess weekly can certainly do a lot to keep this enthusiasm alive. It will be an honour for me to serve chess in the Netherlands by working on the "Schaakwereld".
