On the 5th of March, 1929, Grandmaster Efim Bogoljubow wrote a letter in German to Hermann Römmig, the Treasurer of the German Chess Union from 1920 to 1933. The translated text: “Dear Mr. Römmig,Having received your letter of March 3rd, I must inform you that, to my regret, it has never occurred to me in my life to have collected 50 marks from someone for an analysis. Nor from Mr. Brenner. It is not impossible that I was shown an adjourned game somewhere to get my opinion about it. At the same time, I must note that I interfere in matters that do not concern me any further. I think I have given you sufficient information on this matter.Best regards, Yours faithfully, E. BogoljubowPS. If the young man still has these 50 M.-, I can always get him an analysis later.”
