In celebration of the 16th Chess Olympiad, held from November 2 to November 25, 1964, in Tel Aviv, Israel, a unique envelope, stamp set, and cancellation mark were issued. The event attracted 50 competing teams. The Soviet squad, comprising six Grandmasters and captained by World Champion Petrosian, successfully clinched their seventh gold medal in a row. Yugoslavia and West Germany were the runners-up, securing silver and bronze medals, respectively.
