The Epic of Manas is a traditional epic poem that dates back to the 18th century, though Kyrgyz tradition claims it is much older. The plot revolves around events that align with the region’s history in the 9th century, focusing on the interactions between the Kyrgyz people and other Turkic and Chinese peoples. In one of its many versions, the epic poem consists of approximately 500,000 lines.
