The leader of the Russian team, Garry Kasparov, scored 7½/9 and achieved a 2933 performance rating, one of the strongest performances in the history of Olympiads

The 35th Chess Olympiad, held between October 25 and November 11, 2002, in Bled, Slovenia, featured 135 teams in the open event and 90 teams in the women’s event. The Russian team, led by ex-champions Kasparov and Khalifman, secured their sixth consecutive title. Hungary and Armenia claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the women’s event, China achieved their third consecutive title. The podium also included Russia with the silver and Poland with the bronze.
