The 31st Chess Olympiad, held between November 30 and December 17, 1994, in Moscow, Russia, witnessed the Russian team successfully defending their title. Captained by PCA world champion Kasparov, they secured victory. However, due to a dispute with the national federation, FIDE champion Anatoly Karpov was absent. Notably, Bosnia-Herzegovina delivered a strong performance, earning the silver medal. Surprisingly, the Russian “B” team of juniors claimed the bronze—a unique occurrence where the same nation occupied more than one medal rank. In the women’s event, the Georgian team, led by former world champion Chiburdanidze, retained their title, with Hungary securing second place and China taking third. The Olympiad bulletin, a daily source of information for players and spectators, covered everything from results and standings to pairings and games.
