The 30th Chess Olympiad, held between June 7 and June 25, 1992, in Manila, Philippines, witnessed significant changes due to the fall of the Iron Curtain. Twelve of the 15 former Soviet republics participated as independent nations, all achieving top rankings. Meanwhile, an all-German team made its first appearance since World War II. Among the former Yugoslav republics, Croatia, Bosnia, and Slovenia competed independently, while Serbia-Montenegro and Macedonia did not. Notably, this Olympiad marked the final appearance of Czechoslovakia and the return of South Africa. Russia secured their inaugural gold, with Uzbekistan and Armenia following closely. In the women’s tournament, the podium featured Georgia, Ukraine, and China. The Olympiad bulletin, a daily source of information for players and spectators, covered everything from results and standings to pairings and games.
