The fifth World Chess Champion, Dutch Machgielis "Max" Euwe, served as President of FIDE from 1970 to 1978. The 20th Chess Olympiad in Skopje, Yugoslavia (present-day Macedonia) had a number of events designed to promote chess, famous players planting saplings was one of them.
